Day 21 - Aloha!

We awoke today to cold temperataures, rain and just a very dreary day!  The ride to the Portland Airport was a breeze, and once there (thanks to Joe and Joy for the ride!) the check in and security check were a breeze!  We couldn't believe it after experiencing Houston International Airport, which can be a nightmare!  As we waited for our flight, I caught up on email and Jim went and ate breakfast.  I don't do well on airplane take-offs and landings, so I passed eating breakfast and did my daily devotions....

I wish there was an easier way to get to Hawaii!  The flight was a direct flight, and it took 5 hours and 30 minutes!  We flew Hawaiian Airlines, and it was a very comfortable flight, just long.........Jim slept most of the way - I couldn't - so I did crossword puzzles and read.  There were no incidents, the Capatain and the other passengers all remained calm and we we landed in Hawaii at around 1P.M.  It was beautiful weather and moderate temperatures.  Jeremy met us at the airport and we then went to eat a late lunch at a Mexican restaurant on the North Shore, which is where we have rented a house for our duration on the island.  It was good to see Jeremy and catch up with all his activities.

When we were on our way to lunch, I called Jim Cheskawich to check on the girls and found out that he had taken Penny to the vet this morning as she was now having the same symptoms as Lacy and he had been up all night with her.  ( I thought maybe she wasn't feeling up to par - but then I thought maybe she was sensing that we were getiing ready to leave) So now she is on medication as well and Jim said they are both doing much better.  I felt badly for Jim having to deal with sick dogs, but we are blessed to have a doggy person taking care of them that recognizes symptoms and responds quickly to assure the dogs are seen by the vet!  Thank  you Jim!

We are staying  on the North Shore this visit, in the town of Hale-iwa - which is closer to Schoffield Barrack where Jeremy is staioned.  This is a very quaint town, filled with all kinds of activities, shops, restaurants and surfers!  The owners of the property we are renting, are very nice and accommodating.

After dropping off our luggage, we headed to Schoffield Barracks to pick up some groceries at the Post Commissary and to drop Jeremy off at his barracks.  One of the reasons we rented versus staying at a hotel is to be able to prepare meals instead of eating out so much - that can get costly in Hawaii!

We returned to the house and as we did, there was a rescue helicopter landing on the beach in front of the house where we are staying. It landed long enough to pick up two life-guards and then took off again.  In the meantime an emergency vehicle towing a rescue boat launched at the harbor (also across from where we are staying) .  Not sure what was going on, but obviously someone was is distress and they were in need of immediate attention.  We pray that all worked out for the best.

We hit the bed early - I did not blog - as we were both so tired from two nights of little sleep.  Tomorrow we will walk around the town where we are staying, as there are many sights to see and many shops and galleries to visit!  Jeremy will join us on the weekend, as he has to work and has training this week.

As a point of note, we discovered when we unpacked our luggage that we had a stow-away!  Can you guess who it might be?  You are right if you guessed "Speedy".  Not sure how he managed it, but he is here with us and we will just have to make the best of it............that turtle is devious!

Aloha!

We passed the Dole Pineapple Plantation on our way to Scoffield Barracks
