Day 14 - Meeting the traffic MONSTER!

Today we left Fort Story, heading towards Baltimore, MD.  Our friends from Port Lavaca, Stan and Susie Marshall are docked at the Harbor Marina and we plan to meet with them on Thursday.  they have been cruising  the waterways in their boat (The Pearl), as we have been "cruising" the highways, and we are looking forward to sharing our travel stories.  (Follow Stan and Susie's blog Life in the Slow lane, at sscruisingadventure.blogspot.com)

We drove back through Emporia, VA and picked up I-95 and headed towards Maryland.  All was well until we hit Alexandria, VA and traffic came to a screeching halt!  Oh my goodness.  From that point on, traffic was a BEAR!  We thought we had timed our travels well before rush hour, but it appears that rush hours is 24/7 in these parts of the highway!  It was congested through VA, Washington DC and Baltimore, MD.  It took us two hours to go thirty miles at one point.  Now mind you, we are pulling a travel trailer, which makes it somewhat of a challenge changing lanes in bumper to bumper traffic.  Also, we have to avoid tunnels due to carrying propane, so we have to take the round-about highways to get over bridges which are very expensive to cross over in this area as well!  Jim did an excellent job of driving and manuvering through the traffic.  I just tried to maintain a calm demeanor .......yeah, right!

FYI - It is against the law to text or talk on your cell phone while driving in the State of Maryland. However, apparently that is only enforced if you get caught!  We saw a lot of drivers texting and talking on their phones while driving!  Not sure how they enforce the law.......

The other issue we encountered today, was locating an RV park to spend the next couple of days.......
There just are not any in the area.....unbelievable.  I spent the day on my smart phone looking for a RV Park and finally found one about 20 miles from Baltimore.  It is called the Bar Harbor RV Park and Marina in Abingdon, MD.  It is very nice here, with a beautiful view of Bar Harbor and the Bush Yacht Club.  The best part?  I have full phone signal, wifi, and cable TV!  Woohoo! I'll try to get some pictures to share ........

We spent the night catching up on our blog, and it was midnight when we finished ....a very long day!

It is a beautiful day today, and we are looking forward to our visit with Stan and Susie!

Til next time...........
