Day 4 - Chasing History

After a rough night of severe thunderstorms, we awoke around 8 AM to cloudy skies and no rain.  We quickly "hitched the wagon" and headed to Chattanooga, TN.  We drove about six hours before stopping in Chattanooga to meet a friend of mine from childhood in New York, whom I had not seen in forty-one years!  It was amazing to be able to catch up on how life has taken us down different paths and yet we were able to pick up where we left off, remembering our childhood experiences rather vividly, as if no time had passed.. Thank you Gale for taking the time to meet with Jim and I today, and for the opportunity to laugh and share the memories!  It was so good to see you my friend!

Tennessee is a beautiful state with a lot of history. We traveled through the Cumberland mountain range and passed through several historic towns.  Each town had its' own unique character and the buildings and homes varied from small farm homes to magnificent mansions.  Of particular interest were:

Adamsville, TN

1.  Originally named after George Adams who operated a stage coach stop in the 1840's.
2.  Adamsville's current claim to fame is that it was the home of Sheriff Buford Pusser.
3.  It is also known as the "Biggest little town in Tennessee".
4.  In 1838, Bell's Detachment of the Trail of Tears traveled through Adamsville.  (Reference Turtle

5.   During the Battle of Shiloh in 1862, the Union Army was camped in Adamsville.

Here are two websites for reference information on the above facts:

As we were leaving Chattanooga, the weather again took a turn for the worse, so we ended up pulling into a KOA Kampground and calling it a day!  We will be glad when all of Isaac's residual storms are over!

Tomorrow we will finally arrive at our Son's house in North Carolina.  We hope the day is full of sunshine (and giggles from the grandchildren)!

Til next time..........
