Ft. Drum, Watertown, N.Y.

Today we head towards Clayton, NY which is where we will reside at an RV park for a few days while we visit Jeremy and take in some lighthouses.  Jeremy is a Staff Sergeant stationed at Fort Drum in Watertown, NY which is about 20 miles from our RV park.  About the time we arrived, Jeremy showed up and helped with setting up the RV.  He then took us to dinner at the Clipper Inn, a popular spot in the area and we had a wonderful meal.  Go to clipperinn.com for additional information about this restaurant. 


Fort Drum is an Army Post with a population of 12,955.  It is home to the 10th Mountain Division.  Fort  Drum consist of 107,265 acres and temperatures drop as low as -30 degrees.  Its mission includes command of active component units assigned to the installation, provide administrative and logistical support to tenant units, support tenant units, support to active and reserve units from all services in training at Fort Drum, and planning and support for the mobilization and training of almost 80,000 troops annually. It has been a military training site since 1908 when it was called Camp Pine.In 1974, a permanent garrison was assigned and Camp Pine was renamed Fort Drum.
