Day 14 - OMGosh! Travel Day......

Today started out easy enough - the manager at the KOA where we stayed the last two nights, advised us that it would be best to just take Hwy 101 through San Francisco as they are working on the roads that we were thinking about traveling to by-pass San Francisco.  Piece of cake right?  So we began at 9:00 AM and made it over the Golden Gate Bridge at 11:30 AM!  The traffic all the way was UNBELIEVABLE!  And yes, we did drive straight through downtown San Francisco with the "Turtle"!  No scrapes, no bumps, no nails left!  Still married, still talking to one another!  No joke!  OMGosh - we really did that?  Amazing!  I did get some good pictures of the city - I think San Francisco has more people per cubic foot than anywhere else on earth!  How can they live that close to one another - on a hill no less!  Once we got clear of the big traffic, we pulled off the road and took a much needed lunch break!  McDonalds never tasted so good! LOL

On our travels this day, we drove through Gilroy, which is the garlic capital of the world, and we drove through Mendocino County and Sonoma Valley where we passed olive and  cherry orchards and many, many, many, vineyards and tasting rooms!  For our wine friends - just so you know - you could actually stop to taste many varieties of wine from Novato to Ukiah (approximately 100 miles)  and never miss a beat!  Of course you would have to have a designated driver and a reservation at a local B&B in Ukiah!  I have never seen so many vineyards and wine tasting rooms in my life!  And to think we didn't even go through Napa Valley!

We are now at a KOA in Willits, California, which is about 33 miles from Fort Bragg which is where we plan to go tomorrow to search for sea glass!  We didn't do any additional lighthouses on the coast, as we had already visited them on our last trip to the Northwest from Washington to Santa Cruz.  We did miss one or two lighthouses due to fog, so we will try to catch those on our way to Crystal City on Friday.

It is 40 degrees as I write this tonight and it is expected to get close to freezing by morning! In California?  Good thing I brought my heavy coat I brought in Alaska with me!  It has really come in handy!

Today is our Grandson Elijah's birthday!  He is ten years old and growing up so fast!  Happy Birthday Elijah!  MeMom and Gramps love you!
