Day 18 - Astoria, Oregon - Woodland, Washington

We were going to stay at the KOA Campground one more night, but decided to move to an RV park in Woodland, WA which is where we will be dropping off the dogs for boarding on Tuesday, while we head to Hawaii.  I am so glad we made that decision!  After church this morning at the Warrenton Methodist Church, we packed things up and hit the road!  The drive was a short two hour drive, and the scenery did change the closer we got to the Washington State line.  The roads were not as curvy nor were they as steep as they had been on 101.  We picked up Interstate 5 and headed to Woodland and as we approached the bridge to cross into Washington, Mount St. Helen loomed majestically before us!  It was a beautiful sight!

We are at the Columbia River RV Park which is in a very picturesque setting within 100 yards of the Columbia River.  It is peaceful here and the temperature was 65 degrees and it was sunny all day!  To get a better idea of where we are, go to www.columbiariverfrontrvpark.com and check it out!  We walked the dogs and sat with them on the riverbank for a long time today.  It was good just to relax and take it easy!

Tomorrow we will meet with our friends Joy and Joe Ritter for dinner.  They live in Kalama, which is very close to where we are staying.  They are the breeders of our Samoyed, Penny. We are anxious to catch up on their dog show activities and to learn what is new in their life since both of them are retired now as well!   We haven't seen them in five years and they are anxious to see Penny!

And yes, we did get to put another sticker on our "where we have been" map!

Tomorrow is our chore day - laundry and cleaning "house".  Our suitcases are already packed for Hawaii........!!!!!!

Mt. Saint Helen

There are many nice homes on the river road near the campground
This is one that I thought was interesting........

The marker that marks our campsite - how fitting - or Speedy thinks so anyway!

The new Wal Mart 2 1/2 miiles from the campground - how convenient is that?!
The Wal Mart's in this area don't look anything like our Wal Mart in Port Lavaca...

Sunset looking across the Columbia river from our campsite
