Day 17 - Bandon, Oregon - Astoria, Oregon

I want to begin by letting you know that we didn't get to post our blog last night because the wifi service at the campground where we were staying was very weak.   Every time I tried to upload my pictures, it would drop me.  Add to that the fact that it took almost 10 minutes to download one picture, I would have been up way past my bedtime for sure!  The wi-fi service at this KOA is very good and I've not had any problems thus far!

Today was an absolutely beautiful day to travel!  The high today got to 60 degrees, and the people on the coast must think it is summer as they were all out on the beach swimming and picnicking!  As I've said before, the ride along the Pacific Coast is just something one must experience to fully comprehend the beauty of the journey!  Again we traveled through mountains as well as along the coast and just basked in the wonder of what God has created.

We stopped at McDonalds for breakfast this morning (they have really good carmel mocha coffee:)) and discovered an outdoor railroad museum across the street that was open to the public and FREE!  That was fun, and Jim took some pictures which I have posted here.  And Speedy just couldn't pass up the opportunity to drive a steam locomotive!  Later in the afternoon, we stopped at the Tillamook Cheese Factory to pick up some cheese spread (we can get the block cheese at HEB, but not the spread) and a few other items.  We love Tillamook Cheese and had discovered it during our last trip to Oregon when we had also taken the tour of the factory.  This time we just shopped!

We arrived at the KOA campground around 5 PM.  They have a dog playground with agility equipment set up and we took the dogs to play and exercise since they have been stuck in the truck for so long - they really enjoyed that!  This KOA is HUGE!  They have over 200 RVsites, plus they have cabins (about 100 )  and tent sites.  Amenities include a heated indoor pool, spa, store, basketball courts, laundry,  theatre stage, horseshoes pit, volleyball court, bike rental, horse stables , etc.  And the place is packed!  Most are families with young children enjoying the long Easter weekend.  We then had dinner and we are now trying to make our plans for tomorrow, as we are only 82 miles from where we are going to be boarding the dogs in Washington.  We are thinking we will stay here another night and do some house cleaning, dog grooming and relaxing.  A none-travel day will be nice!

As a note of interest, we have now traveled 2,652 miles on our journey!

There is a Methodist church close to the campground, and we are planning to attend church there in the morning!  May you all have a blessed Easter!

Views along the way.....

Fields of daffodils in full bloom

Interesting house on the coast - not a legit lighthouse

Remember most of my pictures are taken on the fly through the car window, so there is some glare from the window present in most of the pictures.  The clearer pictures are taken outside the car for the most part.......just so you know why some pictures are clearer than others........
