Day 19 - Rolling Down the River.....

Well, as fate would have it, we have not been able to post to the blog for a couple of reasons.  One, it appears the RV Park on the River only allows you 520 MB of usage per day, and my post of Day 18 exceeded that amount, so they cut us off for a 24 hour period.  How odd is that?  We've never been limited on wi-fi usage anywhere else we have been.  We've had poor service, but not restrictions on usage.

Anyway, despite that issue, the stay on the Columbia River was one of the nicest for us.  Very peaceful and the weather was grand!  Sixty-five degrees and sunny both days......  On this day we cleaned the RV, did laundry, and basically chilled out, which doesn't make for a really exciting blog, however, towards evening several big rigs (motorhomes) came in, and Lacy and Penny made new friends as one of the rigs had nine Papillions and one American Eskimo dog with them!  The people that owned them use to do dog showing, but now just participate in Obedience and Utility work.  Several of the Papillions had UDX titles (Utility Dog Excellence) and were also being used as therapy dogs.  The American Eskimo was a rescue they found wandering along a highway in Vancouver, Oregon.  So of course, we were in heaven because we had dog people to converse with, and the girls had new playmates!

In the evening we met our Samoyed friends Joe and Joy Ritter for dinner and had a delightful meal at a really nice Mexican restaurant in town.  Joe and Joy have a knack for choosing really great places to eat!  Jim said the flan he had for dessert was the best he has ever eaten, bar none!  We purchased our current Samoyed (Penny) from Joe and Joy, and we are so thankful for their friendship!  In the flow of conversation at dinner, we mentioned we were having difficulty securing a motel in Portland to stay and leave our truck while we were in Hawaii, as most hotels have a rule that states you can only leave a car in their parking lot 10 days - and of course we will be in Hawaii longer than 10 days.......so they said that's silly, come spend tomorrow night at our house, and leave your truck at the house and we will drive you to the airport Wednesday morning, and we will pick you up when you get back! Now you know why they are such special people to us!

When we got back to the RV we prepared the trailer for storage at our friends house (Jim Cheskawich) who also has Samoyeds (we've been showing since 1970, so  we have a lot of doggie friends spread out all over the country) and went to bed. ( Here comes the second reason why we haven'g been able to blog!)  Well that didn't last long as Lacy (the Border Collie) kept getting us up every half hour on the half hour to go out. It was very clear she was not feeling well, so it was a very long night.  We felt so badly for her as she is the sweetest dog in the world, and never misbehaves or asks for anything, she just wants to please us and love us unconditionally.  We ended up taking her to the vet the next morning and I'll write more on that in the next blog.

There were some interesting ships and boats going up and down the Columbia River, and it was interesting to watch the big ships work their way around the bouys and channel lights.
