Day 22 - Shop, Eat, Shop!

After 10 hours of much needed sleep, we arose, caught up on our blogging, had breakfast and headed out to explore Hale-iwa - particularily Hale-iwa Marketplace.  We stopped in the local grocery store and picked up a couple of items we forgot yesterday when we went to the commissary.  Then we visited all the quaint shops and galleries in the Marketplace.  The shops were very interesting and the galleries were full of local artisian glass works, jewelry and homemade goodies!  We did not buy much here, a few postcards and a couple of novelty items. Very pricey.  We did stop at Matsumoto's Shaved Ice and ordered the Hawaiian (highly recommended) shaved ice (small - it was more than enough for both of us!) with condensed milk (I know, I know!).  It was comprised of pineapple, coconut and banana fruit syrup and it was divine (and I don't like pineapple or coconut!) !!!!!  We timed it just right because by the time we left, the line was out the door and down the street!

We returned to the house and had lunch, then once again ventured out, this time to Miliani, a few miles past Schoffield Barracks, to shop at - you guessed it - Wally World!  A really nice store with much cheaper prices than the tourist trap at the Marketplace!  It rained on our way to Wal Mart, but by the time we finished shopping, the rain had stopped.  This is a daily happening here on the island!

There were no surfers out this afternoon, not sure why, so we will try to catch them later!  Maybe the weekend will be a better time......the beach was very quiet today........

We have seen some beautiful flowers this time that we did not see when we came last year.  I think we were too early for the spring blossoms when we came in March.  Where we are staying all the fruit trees are bearing fruit, and the pineapple and coffee plantations are abundant with their goods as well!

We are now back at the house for the day - we are trying to pace ourselves so we can enjoy our time together and the peace and quiet of our surroundings. This is truly paradise!

Aloha!

Don't ask me what this is - but for that price, it better be good!

We are on the backside of the landlords house a few hundred yards from the beach!

Not sure what this is, but it was interesting! Looks like an albino Bird of Paradise....
